Job Summary: The Director of Corporate Communications provides strategic direction and oversight for internal and external communications to advance the company’s strategic initiatives, demonstrate its position as an industry leader and reinforce its commitment to being a great place to work. This role reports to the Executive Director of Global Communications and PR, and works closely with the department EVP and the company’s Leadership Team. Additionally, this role is responsible for management and mentorship of several communications team members focused on the development and dissemination of engaging, informative and innovative content across internal and external channels, including media and industry influencer relations, executive level speaking engagements and events, Town Hall events, as well as the organization’s Corporate Website, company-wide emails and Intranet.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities: * Lead Communications Planning: Create and oversee the execution of multi-faceted communications plans to promote key business initiatives and drive awareness of the long-term business strategy both internally and externally. Participate in cross-functional leadership steering committees to provide communications counsel as plans are developed to implement various company programs; provide recommendations on messaging such programs. Work with international partners to share content and messaging to promote the global nature of the business. * Reputation Management:Identify key messages and communication channels to effectively position and raise the company’s profile, including industry visibility, internal communications and executive engagements. Oversee team in preparing media briefing documents, provide direction on key messages and oversee the development of compelling presentations. Provide coaching and training to prepare executives and other company spokespeople for internal/external events or discussions. * Advance Company Culture: Create and lead campaigns to reinforce the company’s strategic plan to leverage talent and culture as a competitive advantage. Manage all aspects of internal Quarterly Town Halls, inclusive of overseeing the planning and logistics, framing the agenda and presentation development, coaching executives and more. Manage executive visibility opportunities, internally and externally, to humanize leadership, reinforce key strategic initiatives, drive awareness of the company’s engagement with the Military community and disability hiring efforts, among others. * Manage Media and Influencer Relations:Foster, grow and maintain positive relationships with media contacts, industry influencers, analysts and internal constituencies. Respond to media requests with a sense of urgency and provide sound direction to PR staff on appropriate messaging for media responses. Act as company spokesperson for media requests on high-level topics and corporate initiatives as needed. * Drive Innovative Communications:Shape the team’s adoption of new and emerging technologies to advance communication objectives. Challenge the team to leverage existing comms channels, as well as integrate video, infographics and rich content, to amplify key initiatives, messages and announcements. * Budgeting:Maintain oversight of overall Public Relations and Special Events budgets and communicate status with EVP, Global Comms and PR, on a regular basis. Demonstrate fiscal responsibility in monitoring expenses and review invoices to ensure that all expenses are documented and processed appropriately.
Qualifications: * Bachelor of Arts or Science in Journalism, Communications or related area of study * Minimum 10 years public relations experience in a corporate or agency setting with corporate reputation, internal and crisis comms experience * Strong verbal skills, leadership capabilities and demonstrated ability to work closely with and provide sound counsel to senior-level executives * Ability to manage individuals and teams with proven track record of coaching and mentoring staff * Business media relations skills and existing relationships; experience representing global/national retail brands and consumer products a plus * Strong project management and planning capabilities * Resourcefulness, flexibility and resiliency * Excellent writing and editing skills * Superior time management and organizational skills * Strategic thinking and creativity
