_Position Summary:_ The Merchandise Finance team supports the Toys R Us Merchandising and Planning teams in a consultative manner, acting as the lead finance partner to the VP of Merchandising for both Toy and Baby business units. The manager will ensure that decisions support “R” Us’ strategy and the financial representation of that strategy. This includes evaluation and analysis of the sales and profit impact of strategic initiatives, margin initiatives, and other margin related activities including markdowns and promotions. The Category Specialist will help grow our business through effective use of data and insights working with key stakeholders cross functionally, providing a strong, ongoing, strategic point of view on categories, along with specific recommendations for tactical improvement.

_Position Responsibilities:_ * The manager is THE conduit of business performance optimization from the perspective of the CFO and VP of Planning & Analysis to the Merchandising organizations on most matters that are objectively measurable. * Provide the organization and business partners with on-going financial analytics to identify opportunities and risks to the operating business. * Deliver financial modeling, guidance, and counseling to executive members related to strategic projects. Analyze and forecast sales and cost of sales by business line. * Work closely with Merchant team and cross-functional partners to understand business issues and recommend solutions that drive profitable growth. * Support the seasonal and annual planning process by partnering with Planning and Allocations on target setting for Merchandise divisions (Sales, Inventory, Gross Margin and Turnover), and reviewing merchant plans for financial viability, calling our risks and opportunities.

This group is highly visible in the organization and candidate must be able to present results and translate statistical and business terminology to senior members of management. Must be able to interact productively with decision makers.

Qualifications

_Position Requirements:_ * Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance. MBA or CPA preferred. * 5-7 years of meaningful experience in financial planning & analysis in a corporate setting. Retail background is highly desirable. * Experience leading others; ability to effectively foster positive team member engagement, manage performance, identify skill gaps, and provide coaching to enhance skill development * Very strong analytical and quantitative skills; excellent communication skills, both oral and written; able to express complex ideas in simple terms; well-developed interpersonal skills, including the ability to challenge; proficient in computer modeling; ability to rapidly assimilate knowledge of retail systems. * Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to manage multiple assignments and projects with varying deadlines * Superior knowledge of Microsoft Excel. Understanding of Microsoft Access, Excel/Access VBA and Macros, Data Modeling, Microstrategy and statistical analysis a plus.
