Manager – Pricing & Promotions

Position Summary:

Core Role: Provide analytical support and insights to the Marketing and Merchant divisions on marketing, promotional and pricing activity. Ensure that decisions support R Us’ strategy and the financial representation of that strategy.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Provide support and recommendations to merchant teams to assist in managing pricing indices, promotions, and active inventory management while still achieving overall margin targets.

  • Identify competitive pricing and promotional cadences by category / key items, determine sales and margin implications and partner with merchant team to support tactical pricing decisions.

  • Analyze promotional events based on sales, guest traffic, margin and EBITDA performance to assess R Us’ marketing plans. Publish analysis and provide recommendations to Marketing and Senior Management.

  • Work with merchants to set up pricing & promotions tests, execute, analyze, report the results, and recommend pricing action.

  • Ensure proper interpretation of reporting and utilize analyses to meet changing business needs.

  • Influence key cross-functional business partners by delivering ad hoc analyses and recommendations for marketing and merchant teams that encompass strategic direction, optimal value creation and proper focus of resources.

This group is highly visible in the organization and candidate must be able to present results and translate statistical and business terminology to senior members of management and the client groups that the team supports (i.e. Merchandising, Marketing). Must be able to interact productively with decision-makers.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree is required (Major in business or related subject). MBA a plus.

  • 5-7 years of meaningful experience in financial planning, analytics or pricing in a corporate setting. Retail operations background is a plus.

  • Experience leading others; ability to effectively foster positive team member engagement, manage performance, identify skill gaps, and provide coaching to enhance skill development.

  • Superior problem-solving, analytical and quantitative skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills including ability to work in a cross functional environment and communicate with all levels of the organization.

  • Strong oral/written communication and presentation skills. Can express complex ideas in simple terms.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and projects with varying deadlines.

  • Superior knowledge of Microsoft Office, most notably Excel. Experience with SQL, Access a plus.

  • Experience with data modeling and statistical analysis.

Supervisory Levels:

  • Will supervise 3 analysts.
