Job Description

The Planning and Allocation Analyst maintains and analyzes item plans for one or more departments. Additionally, they are responsible for creating item plans for new items, taking into account promotional needs, seasonal build, display requirements and other factors. This position proactively works directly with vendors to exchange orders, sales data and item availability information. Works directly with cross functional groups on tactics to achieve corporate goals. The position also plays a pivotal role between the merchant team, the vendor community, and other internal teams that support store execution. As such, the position demands a very high attention to detail, a flexibility and willingness to make running changes and a relentless focus on achieving results. This position reports directly to a Manager of Merchandise Planning and Allocation.

Key Tasks & Responsibility

Item Ordering & Replenishment System

  • Responsible for reviewing and maintaining DC and Store In Stocks

  • Ensure system inputs are accurate based on business need, partnering with S&OP to make systematic adjustments when need be.

  • Review upcoming promotions, ensuring coding is accurate and promotions are planned appropriately

  • Review Overages in inventory, make markdown/promotional recommendations to buying team. Action orientated

  • Review Flow to stores and collaborate with S&OP to adjust based on business needs


  • Collaborate with buying team to ensure go forward assortment meets within financial guidelines

  • Collaborate with buying on item quantities for new items, generating and manage associated POs

  • Create/Manage Weekly Item Plans for new items

  • Review and adjust case pack size and quantities based on business need

  • Collaborate with buying on space allocation to ensure sales plan and inventory plan support being instock ( Feature Shops/POGs), identifying issues and escalating when need be


  • Review Vendor Lead times and Review times, adjusting based on business need

  • Build relationships with Vendor partners

  • Ensure vendors have appropriate go forward forecasts

  • Monitor Fill Rates and On time performance, escalating issues

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business related field, such as supply chain, economics, etc. and/or a minimum of 2 years in equivalent experience

  • Skills required in:

  • Supply Chain

  • Inventory Analysis & Planning

  • Assortment Optimization

  • Financial Planning & Cash Flow impact

  • Vendor Management

  • Retail Industry Acumen

  • Basic skills in Negotiation and Business Analyses

  • Basic knowledge and understanding of store fixtures, signage and merchandise layout

  • Knowledge of 4R, DCM a plus.

  • Advanced skills in MS Excel, intermediate skills in MS Word, and basic skills in PowerPoint
