Job Description

Position Summary:

Core Role: Provide analytical support and insights to the Marketing and Merchant divisions on marketing, promotional and pricing activity. Ensure that decisions support Toys R Us’ strategy and the financial representation of that strategy.

Position Responsibilities:

  • The senior analyst supports business performance optimization through analysis on all pricing initiatives that are objectively measurable.

  • Assist manager in identifying competitive pricing and promotional cadences by category / key items, determining sales and margin implications and partnering with merchant team to support decisions.

  • Influence key cross-functional business partners by delivering ad hoc analyses and recommendations for marketing and merchant teams that encompass strategic direction, optimal value creation and proper focus of resources.

  • Proactively seek ways to improve reporting, leverage knowledge of data systems and technical skills to identify and develop opportunities for process improvement and meet changing business needs.

  • Support the manager in building and maintaining relationships as a supporting partner to the merchant and marketing teams.

  • Analyze promotional events based on sales, guest traffic, margin and EBITDA performance to assess Toys R Us’ marketing plans. Publish analysis and provide recommendations to management.

  • Assist with operational needs of team, including execution of price changes, management of location based pricing, end of life inventory management and KVI related operations.

This group is highly visible in the organization and candidate must be able to present results and translate statistical and business terminology to senior members of management and the client groups that the team supports (i.e. Merchandising, Marketing).

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree is required (Major in business or related subject). MBA a plus.

  • 3-5 years of meaningful experience in financial planning & analysis in a corporate setting. Retail background is a plus.

  • Superior problem-solving, analytical and quantitative skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills including ability to work in a cross functional environment and communicate with all levels of the organization.

  • Strong oral/written communication and presentation skills. Can express complex ideas in simple terms.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and projects with varying deadlines.

  • Superior knowledge of Microsoft Office, most notably Excel. Experience with SQL, Access a plus.

  • Experience with data modeling and statistical analysis.
